ACD (Visual / UI), fulltime - FinTech giant with startuppy Agile team, MM's of users, very sane hours, love agency types

Location: New York, NY
Date Posted: 02-09-2018
We're seeking an Associate Creative Director (Visual/UI) for our FinTech client, to help design new product offerings and features in a highly Agile, iterative fashion, both for financial and insurance planners, as well as consumers. The scope is massive - it's a F150 company founded in the 1800s with millions of users, so the ability to create impact for the betterment of getting more and more Americans insured =  massive!

It's very much the best of both worlds - an agency-influenced approach with a startup culture, and the hefty backing of the large financial institution that acquired them and is eagerly incorporating their innovative influence and products. It's great for agency-types who are looking for a break into a client-side opportunity where they can iterate, ship, tweak, and stick with a brand to ensure its continued success.

Their co-leaders of design are incredible - two women with illustrious educational and professional backgrounds, who are both incredibly approachable and care deeply for the team - and the company has fantastic female leadership at the C-level and beyond. Their design team is one of the largest in the city, with 75+ people and growing.

You'll be working with the talented Group Design Director, a strong Visual team, and collaborate closely with the UX team. If you're a great presenter and a thought leader in the user-centered design field, all the better - we'd love to know about that!
You’ll help recruit, onboard, mentor, and manage product/UI designers, and help drive the future of multiple digital products. As a thought leader, you’ll help plan and drive the short-, medium, and long-term future of the product, including high-level vision. You have the polish and chops to present and sell-in concepts to internal high-level stakeholders, and will collaborate with other design directors and leadership across the company. You'll enjoy excellent benefits and very reasonable work/life balance - which is often a wonderful respite from agency folks who are used to long, late night hours! Not so here. Very strong benefits package by virtue of it being a F150 company.
  • 6+ years in a design role, with a successful track record of creating large-scale digital products and applications (digital agency experience a plus)
  • Management experience of 3-5 designers in a formalized manner  (not project oversight)
  • Experience working closely with all levels of visual product design, and playing well with cross-discipline collaborators (UX, Copy, Tech, Product, Research)
  • A proven history of mentoring junior designers while ensuring every interaction is simple, intuitive, delightful and supports the product vision
  • Ability to provide clear creative direction as well as timely and prescriptive feedback on work as well as how to improve the design process for the company as a whole
  • A track record of innovative product design, including responsive, mobile web, and native app design
  • A passion for being on top of new platforms and technologies
  • You love rolling up your sleeves and contributing to hands-on design yourself - your a "designer's designer"
  • A passion for being on top of new platforms and technologies, with an appetite for learning
  • A love of data, data viz, dashboards, information design

Must have:
  • Portfolio of your work, including detailed case studies walking through your process and your design decisions
